Who are Maes Howe?
Of the many who work within the Maes Howe organisation, there is one guiding intellect whose CV is presented below - Steve Thornton.
Steve Thornton MCIOB MAPM (founder of Maes Howe)
"I have over 25 years experience in the construction industry. In the early years I worked as a site engineer / site agent then as Senior Contracts Manager with one of the larger multi-national contractors.
I was mainly involved with design & build projects and I was frequently called upon to lead Design and Build tender submissions, being responsible for taking those contracts through from initial enquiry to completion on site.
I progressed to form my own construction company and carried out speculative development projects as well as operating as a Design and Build contractor for industrial clients and housing associations; the largest being a 56 house development on Merseyside.
I supplemented the contract works and speculative development income by hiring out my services in the field of Project Management, notably the installation of a £2m paper press along with the associated civil engineering packages.
I now concentrate on Construction Management for an ever-widening Developer Client base, as well building quality individual homes.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) and Association for Project Management (MAPM)."
The role of the Project Manager:
I believe it is important that a project manager has good organisational abilities and good presentation skills. He needs to be commercially aware and have an overview of the whole picture, acting in the employer's best interests whilst also appreciating the needs of the "supply team" i.e. the design team through to the construction team on site.
"Allow me to demonstrate to you how my 25 years experience in all aspects of the construction industry can benefit your project and bring about its successful conclusion"
